Don't let your Harvey donations fall victim to scams

If you're making donations to Harvey victims, the BBB has a few things to keep in mind to make sure you're not being scammed.

They say you should research whether a charity is registered with the state of Virginia before making any donations.

Check on how long the charity has been around. If they're brand new, you may want to stay away because there is no record of their operations.

Be aware of copycats, and read over any information very closely.

"It's all about during your homework. It's like anytime you're making solicitations. You want to do your homework, and make sure your money is going to the right place," said Julie Wheeler with the Better Business Bureau.

A list of approved charities can be found on the BBB's website.
