$100,000 Magic: The Gathering Strategy Game Competition in Roanoke



On the weekend of June 30 - July 2, hundreds of competitors from around the world will converge on the Star City to participate in an exclusive championship tournament for the popular strategy game Magic: The Gathering. The competition will award a total of $100,000 in prizes and be broadcast live to tens of thousands of viewers worldwide via the internet.

Roanoke hobby game retailer StarCityGames.com has previously hosted similar events in cities such as Indianapolis, Atlanta and Las Vegas. The organization is collaborating with Big Lick Entertainment for their upcoming event at the Berglund Special Events Center.

“The StarCityGames.com Invitational is the largest independently-organized Magic: The Gathering championship event in the world.” said StarCityGames.com founder and President Pete Hoefling, “I’m incredibly excited to be hosting our flagship event here in our hometown and working with our friends at Big Lick Entertainment to offer our attendees a truly unique and special event experience.”

Although competitors must have previously qualified for the invitation-only main event, hundreds of additional Magic: The Gathering fans from throughout the region are also expected to attend the event to celebrate their hobby and play their favorite game. There is no charge to enter the venue.
