10th anniversary Positively Pink Parade and Party

ROANOKE, Va. - The 10th anniversary Positively Pink Parade and Party is scheduled for Saturday, October 14th.

It will start at 11:00 a.m., inside Valley View Mall.

The annual event is a way to raise awareness, express the importance of mammograms, and raise money for the Every Woman's Life Program.

"We offer screenings and mammograms, diagnostic mammograms and ultra sounds, clinical breast exams, and cervical screenings," says Danielle Henderson, Department Secretary for the program.

Henderson goes on to say, "If a patient needs a biopsy we are able to provide funding for that too."

The women must be Virginia residents who are either low-income, uninsured, or underinsured, and meet federal poverty guidelines.

"We have a lot of ladies who comes to us just for screenings who have never had a mammogram," says Andrea Clark, a Registered Nurse. Clark goes on to say, "It's wonderful when we get those phone calls and they're telling us how if they didn't hear of the program or didn't know about the program then they wouldn't have gone through the steps to get the screening, to get the diagnostic and if they have cancer, to be enrolled in treatment "

The program works off of allotted slots.

"When we run out of those then that's when we use donations, because we never want to turn away a patient. We always want to help them. We will find a way to help whomever."
