Blown transformer at Virginia Tech causes major power outage

BLACKSBURG, VA - UPDATE (9:15 p.m.): Virginia Tech officials say the power has been restored to campus, but other area customers should contact their local utility companies with questions regarding the outage.

AEP is also showing the power has been restored.

According to Virginia Tech's Twitter account, a blown transformer at the campus power plant has caused major power outages in Blacksburg Tuesday night.

They said officials are currently assessing the situation and on scene to work the repair.

AEP is showing a large area without power as of 8:20 p.m. 

Thankfully, there have been no reported injuries.
