Calvary Baptist Church holds prayer vigil

People across Roanoke are still honoring the lives lost after the shooting in Las Vegas that killed 59 and injured more than 500 people. Calvary Baptist Church held a prayer vigil and candle lighting on the church steps Tuesday night.

Both church members and the community were invited to the vigil. The pastor and others prayed for those who lost their lives and the families affected, and they also sang hymns before lighting the candles.

Pastor Steven Pollard hopes the people who came out tonight gained some strength and hope from one another, saying the world wasn't prepared for the recent tragedies it's experienced.

He says there's no way anyone can get over what's happened, but he hopes they can rely on one another to get through it.

"We each need to sense God's presence around us, but we also need to sense God's presence within each other," he says.

Police do believe the shooting was premeditated. Deputies say they haven't discovered a motive for the shooting yet, but are confident they'll find one.
