City Council amends dog tethering ordinance

ROANOKE, VA. -            ROANOKE - City Council voting to amend the tethering restrictions of dogs throughout Roanoke City. Starting July 1, 2018, you will not be permitted to leave your dog tied up outside for more than three hours a day. "That's an accumulative number of hours a day," says Melissa Pruett, animal warden for the city. "If a warden is coming through and they're finding too many hours during the day that an animal or dog is tethered, that's when we start to see problems." There will be a six month education period. Animal wardens will begin giving out citations in January 2018.
