Danville volunteers have to stop 90 miles outside Houston

Harvey's floodwaters have temporarily stopped the God's Pit Crew volunteer team from Danville about 90 miles outside of Houston.

The team left Friday from Virginia and was aiming to get to Houston by noon Sunday, when they got the call to stop.

"It's a waiting game at the moment. it's given us a much needed rest because it's a pretty hectic trip," said volunteer Sid Allgood, "At approximately 10 am this morning, we got a call that the roads were closed and we wouldn't be able to make it into Houston."

The team is bringing two truck loads of food, water, and other supplies to Journey Church.

Pastor Adam Wright says once they get the thumbs up from city officials, they'll have the crews keep driving.

"I don't see any let up anytime soon," Wright said. "The reality is is Houston is still in a stage of rescue versus relief."

They hope that relief stage comes sooner rather than later.

"When somebody's in an emergency situation like this, they're losing their homes, losing lives," Allgood said. "A quick response helps ease that pain."

As for Houston, wright says the city is staying strong.

"We've got a great city," said Wright. "Our city pulls together in times of need. So we have a lot of people that once we move into the relief phase, we will be able to get these people on board and get this supplies to the people who need it most."

God's Pit Crew says it will probably be sending more crews to Texas to help with recovery, as soon as the floodwaters subside.
