UPDATE: Floyd County teacher arrested

FLOYD COUNTY, VA - UPDATE (10/17/17 4:00 p.m.) : Virginia State Police have released new information on the arrest of Floyd County High School teacher Jason Dalton.

The 37-year-old was arrested at his home by special agent on October 13 in Floyd County.

He is being charged with one count of taking indecent liberties while in a custodial role involving a minor and one count of aggravated sexual battery.

Troopers said the charges stem from an investigation by the VSP Bureau of Criminal Investigations, Salem Field Office beginning in March 2017. This, after there were sexual allegations made against Dalton.

Those charges were handed up by a Floyd County Grand Jury.

A Floyd County teacher and coach is behind bars for sexual charges.

According to the Floyd County School District Superintendent, Dr. John Wheeler, Jason Dalton has been suspended without pay.

Dr. Wheeler told WFXR News, Dalton was hired by the school district in 2011. He was a physical education teacher and the assistant coach of the girl's basketball team.

Dalton was placed on administrative leave back in March, according to Dr. Wheeler.

The former teacher was booked into the New River Valley Regional Jail on Friday without bond.

Inmate records show he was charged with taking indecent liberties with a child in 2004, and sexual assault in 2008.
