Gun found at Campbell County preschool

Everyone is ok after a gun was found at a preschool in Campbell County on Monday.

A spokesperson with the Campbell County Sheriff's Office told WFXR News that a child found an unloaded gun in the playground area of Rebecca's Rainbow Early Learning Center at about 8:30 a.m.

An employee saw the child with the gun, which was a .40 caliber pistol, and immediately took it from the child.  That employee then gave the gun to the director of the preschool, who secured the weapon in their car and called police.

About two hours after the original call, the daycare was put on lockdown after employees saw a suspicious person around the scene, but he left before officers got to the area.

The Campbell County Sheriff's Office said the school did exactly was it was supposed to do in this situation, and that the employees handled the situation well.

If you know anything about this case, or know who the gun might belong to, please call the Campbell County Sheriff's Office at (434) 592-9580.
