Mount Regis Center opens new facility a month early

SALEM, VA. - Mount Regis Recovery Center, a recovery center for people suffering with substance abuse, has a new building. It's located across from the Salem Civic Center and is opening a month ahead of schedule. "It's been a long time coming," said Larmar Journiette, a substance abuse tech at the center. Just before the new year, the original building was destroyed by a fire. The new location was already in the construction process but it wasn't set to open until late April. "As you can imagine, it's been a lot of work, a lot of prayers, a lot of work," said Curt Lane, CEO of Mount Regis Center. "And we're just eager to get our patients back, that's our biggest priority."

The new facility is a 30 thousand square feet space. It is complete with a fitness center, a walking trail, a court yard, and a fire pit. Lane says the new facility will help patients with their recovery. "Everyone who comes in not only has a bed, but they have their own little space, a sense of privacy," said Lane. "They each have their own sink for infectious control reasons, their own storage space, their own locker, their own safe. We've worked really hard to maintain that sense of independence."

The staff and friends of the Mount Regis Center cannot wait to welcome new patients into their brand new 48-bed facility. "The excitement is kind of building," said Journiette. "So. we're just ready to go!" Eight new patients are scheduled to check-in on Wednesday morning.
