Sheriff's town hall held on opioid epidemic

BOONES MILL, Va. - The Franklin County Sheriff's Office hosted a town hall meeting Thursday night on the opioid epidemic.

This came after deputies discovered the county's first case of heroin mixed with fentanyl, an opiate painkiller.

The sheriff's office is providing officers with supplies like gloves and respirators to handle the dangerous substance, according to Sheriff Bill Overton. The combination is so powerful, it can get into your system just by touching it.
