Southeast Gateway Mural officially dedicated Friday morning

ROANOKE, Va. -
Drivers making their way on Tazewell Avenue under Interstate 581 now have something beautiful to look at during their commute.

The Southeast Gateway Mural was officially dedicated Friday morning.  It includes 18 columns with images reflecting the activities, history, culture, and native flowers of the Star City.  The mural is the biggest in Roanoke.

The installation took two weeks, but the whole project has been a year in the making.

Residents from the nearby neighborhoods, and people staying at the Rescue Mission all had a hand in making the mural a reality.

"I just thought it was very cool that she included the neighbors in painting and getting it ready.  It's just awesome it just makes it even more closer to our hearts,"said Aaron Obery, the Vice-President of the Belmont Neighborhood Association.

The soon to be former city manager, Chris Morrill, was presented with one of the original mural drawings in honor of his work with the city and his support of public arts.
