Wythe County resident beats cancer twice now shares her story

WYTHE COUNTY, Va. - "I'm thankful to be alive," said Libby Smith, cancer survivor.

Libby Smith says she was surprised when she found out she not only had ovarian cancer, but colon cancer as well.

"I went to Dr. David Smith in Abingdon, I used to babysit him when he was a little boy," said Libby Smith, cancer survivor.

Libby says she didn't want to worry her family.

"The word cancer scares a lot of people. I was afraid. I didn't tell my family," said Libby Smith, Cancer survivor.

But in the end she did let them know and was able to beat her diagnosis.

Now she talks with other Wythe County cancer survivors about their journeys.

"Everybody's got a story we just don't know to what depth it is to what capacity they have suffered.  The support they have had or haven't had and how they have had to do through this," said Libby Smith, Cancer survivor.

She says the disease has made her a stronger personand knows that others can survive it too if they just have faith.

"I'm a fighter, I can do this and I did it," said Libby Smith, Cancer survivor.

"Be brave. Be really really brave. It's hard, it's very difficult but you can get through it," said Libby Smith, Cancer survivor.
