Lea's Classic Preview

Berglund Center announced that the 4TH annual Lea’s High School Winter Classic Basketball Challenge will be held this Saturday, January 13, 2018, in Berglund Center Coliseum. Ticket prices are: general admission $10.00/students $5.00, and are on sale now at Berglund Center Box Office, HomeTownBankTix.com, or by calling 877-HTB-TIXNow. Tickets will also be available the day of the event at the Box Office. Each ticket is good for the entire day.

The Winter Classic has historically showcased local and regional high school basketball teams with top talent. Many past participants have gone on to further their basketball career at the college or professional level. This year, there will be 3 match-ups prior to the 7:00pm marquee ‘Mayor’s Cup’ game.  The schedule is as follows:

1:45pm – Glenvar High School (Salem) vs. Giles High School (Pearisburg)

3:30pm – Northside High School vs. Spotswood High School

5:15pm – Mountain Mission School (Grundy) vs. Massanutten Military Academy

7:00pm Mayor’s Cup – Patrick Henry High School vs. William Fleming High School

The goal of the Winter Classic is not just to showcase emerging talent, but also to serve as a reminder of the great resources focused on strengthening members of the community that exist. The Winter Classic is proud to partner with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southwest Virginia to raise awareness and funds for their mission to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, and responsible citizens. Spectators are encouraged to bring school supplies or a monetary donation. Those who do will receive a FREE student ticket with the purchase of a paid adult.

“We are proud to showcase some of the best high school basketball players in the region” said Robyn Schon, General Manager. “This year will be made even more special by matching up William Fleming and Patrick Henry to compete for the Mayor’s Cup.”

"The Lea family is proud to host the 4th annual High School Winter Classic," stated Roanoke Mayor Sherman Lea, Sr. "We've seen a lot of young talent play in this basketball challenge in Roanoke, some of whom are currently playing in the NBA. We are encouraged that the Lea's Winter Classic will continue to be a platform to showcase some of that nation's best professional basketball players of the future and to support local nonprofit organizations."

Sherman Lea and New Hope Support Services will be the title sponsors of the event. The City of Roanoke is also a supporting sponsor.
