Botetourt Co. teen preps for 9th annual 'Operation: Easter Bunny'

One Botetourt County teen is asking for your help with her annual charity event, "Operation: Easter Basket."

13-year-old Sarah Hamblin has been collecting Easter baskets every year for the past nine years. She fills them up with treats and toys for local kids in the community who are less fortunate than her.

For her fifth birthday, Sarah decided she wanted to give back to her community instead of getting presents.

"In your little life, you think everyone lives like you, but people don't and seeing that it makes you feel good that you're providing for all these kids and giving them something they never get," she said.

Sarah is asking for donations of baskets, supplies, or money to help out with her project. If you're interested in helping, here are her guidelines:

OPERATION: EASTER BUNNY GUIDELINES FOR DONATIONS

Accepting Easter Baskets February 26-March 23, 2018

-Collecting for ages newborn through 12

-All items should be new or in new condition. Baskets may be store purchased or homemade.

-Easter baskets should be wrapped in cellophane bags and sealed shut. Bags can be purchased at most dollar stores and Walmart. Please do not use cellophane roll wrap since items tend to fall out between the strips of cellophane.

-Baskets designed for a specific gender or age should be labelled, such as toddler boy, preteen girl, baby boy, etc. Baskets for boys and infants/toddlers are always in short supply!

-Suggested items for the baskets: outdoor toys (including sports balls, Frisbees, jump ropes, sidewalk chalk, etc.), indoor toys (dress-up items, toy trucks, planes and construction equipment, Nerf items, games, etc.), stuffed animals, preteen items (nail polish, lip gloss, hair accessories, small purses, etc.), clothes, children's books, candy (must be wrapped, no loose jelly beans), craft items, NO GIFT CARDS OR GIFT CERTIFICATES PLEASE.

Cash donations are used to put together additional baskets for distribution and can be mailed to:
