ROANOKE, Va. - UPDATE (12/14/18):
An employee has died from injuries suffered on the job at an Advance Auto Parts distribution center in Roanoke.
The incident happened Thursday at the Distribution Center on Blue Hills Drive NE according to a statement from the company.
"Two employees, we ride the bus every morning, and I don't know if it could be them.," says Roanoke resident Theresa Winfield.
Winfield works just across the street from the Advance Auto Parts distribution center where the incident took place. Like many, she was surprised and saddened to learn that an employee had died early Thursday morning.
"I'm deeply shocked right now because I'm just hoping it's not someone I know," says Winfield.
In a statement, Kevin Nash, Vice President of Advance Auto Parts Communications said:
"Providing a safe and secure work environment for all our Team Members is our top priority at Advance Auto Parts. One of our Team Members was injured at our Roanoke, Virginia Distribution Center today and later succumbed to his injuries. We are deeply saddened by this situation and our focus right now is on the Team Member’s family and our Distribution Center Team. We are looking into the circumstances around the accident, and out of respect to the Team Member’s family, we are not commenting any further at this time.
"I'm deeply saddened and I give them my condolences, to the family," says Winfield.
OSHA did not respond to requests from WFXR about whether it was investigating the incident. However, a search of past records shows Advance Auto Parts was previously cited with several violations at its Stafford location. The case opened in December 2015 and was closed the following year.
The name of the employee has not been released.
One person was injured early Thursday morning, after an accident at a warehouse in Roanoke.
It happened around 2:30am. Roanoke City dispatch, confirming an industrial machine fell on a person at the Advance Auto Parts Warehouse on Blue Hills Drive.
Right now, there's no word on that person's condition.
