SPENCER, Va. (WFXR News) - A church in Henry County is close to rebuilding one year after their church burned down.
The Antioch Christian Church first caught fire early in the morning of December 26, 2017. Two days later, the fire rekindled and burned down the rest of the building.
Henry County Fire Marshal Lisa Garrett ruled the fire accidental and believes a lamp cord is the source of the fire.
Since the fire, the congregation has met at the Horsepasture District Volunteer Fire Department as well as the Preston Community Center.
According to Church Elder Abe Draper, they've received donations from individuals as well as other churches to build their new building.
The contractor has the materials at the site of their old church and is waiting for good weather to lay the foundation. The church will be built in the same exterior design as their old one.
They are praying to have their new building completed by late Summer or early Fall.
