CRAIG COUNTY, Va (WFXR News) - The Virginia State Police are investigating two separate, fatal shootings that occurred Wednesday morning.
According to officials, the first deadly shooting occurred in Craig County and the second occurred in Botetourt County.
At 8:09 this morning, The Craig County Sheriff's Office was called to the 26000 block of Craig Creek Road for a shooting.
When the Sheriff's Office arrived they found 31-year-old Ashley N. Bayne dead on the sidewalk outside of the building.
When the sheriff's spotted the male in a black Dodge Charger he left the scene.
Botetourt County Sheriff’s Office located the vehicle traveling south on Route 220 about 30 minutes later. Botetourt Sheriff’s attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver sped off reaching speeds of 110 mph.
Officials say the man was stopped at a location on Route 220, and exited the vehicle with a weapon and shot himself.
Police say, 52-year-old, James E. Bayne, was transported to Roanoke Memorial Hospital where he later died from a gunshot wound.
Officials say that a handgun was recovered from the Dodge Charger at the scene of the crash.
There was no danger to the public, according to state police. No deputies were hurt and no other vehicles were involved in the crash.
