ROANOKE COUNTY, VA (WFXR News) - Roanoke County Administrator Tom Gates has announced his resignation, effective January 4, 2019.
Gates sent a letter to Roanoke County Board Chair Martha Hooker and the County Board of Supervisors.
He said “after four years as Roanoke County Administrator and nearly 34 years working for local governments, it is time for me to consider new opportunities. I look forward to exploring how I might continue to be of service to my community. I also look forward to having some time to consider the possibilities.”
Hooker thanked Gates for his service and said he has "been a strong leader and dedicated public servant. He leaves the County with an impressive record of accomplishments, none more important than his work to develop Roanoke County Government into the efficient, effective service‐ oriented organization that it is today. We wish Tom well in his new endeavors and we have no doubt that he will be successful in whatever future pursuits he may choose.”
According to the county's website, Gates has been the Roanoke County Administrator since November 19, 2014.
Before that, he served many roles in the City of Alexandria, and multiple areas in South Carolina.
