Two people killed in Franklin County crash

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. - UPDATE 12/3/18  11:40pm - Authorities have identified two people who died in a crash near Smith Mountain Lake.

Virginia State Police said the driver of a sedan, Brittany Henritze, 25, Roanoke and a backseat passenger, David Nash, 32, Vinton died at the scene.

Troopers said a woman in the front passenger seat and her three year-old daughter were taken to the hospital with serious, non-life threatening injuries.

VSP said the child was not properly restrained.

A statement from VSP said a sedan was attempted to turn left from Hardy Road to Booker T. Washington Highway when it pulled in front of an oncoming pickup truck.

Troopers said the driver of the truck was unable to avoid the crash and hit the side of the sedan.

The 28-year-old driver of the truck was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

The name of the man from Rocky Mount has not yet been released.

VSP said the deadly crash in under investigation.
